Bicycles may be so low tech in the face of all those grand technologies that brought them to Mars, but using bicycles there may just be what they need to conserve precious energy
We can almost be sure that bicycles will be around us well into the coming millennia even as we imagine a future where cars can fly and human beings can teleport to distant planets in mere microseconds.

The world needs new technologies to survive into the next generation and thus, our current crop of smart engineers and scientists will continue to come out with improvements and upgrades on previous technologies and equipment. However, because we know that the fossil fuel that drives our machineries and electric generation plants will eventually run out, we need to come up with newer technologies that not only extend the capability of these machines but also to improve the design and performance of current models of bicycles. Here are some imagineering of bicycle technologies that we may just see someday.

1. Self-pedaling bikes

Google and other major car manufacturers in the world already have working models of self-driving cars today, and inevitably, those who can afford would want to have one in their fleet of transport vehicles too. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine that the same technology could be applied to bicycles as well. But would it really be a desirable if not unnecessary feature that will allow you to ride a bike and just tell it to go where you want it to go? There would be tons of physical and technological impossibilities to be resolved first before we can have real self-pedaling bikes and we just don’t have the patience to wait for this to arrive at our doorstep.

2. Self-adjusting bike frame

Again, taking cue from car technologies, a self-adjusting bike frame can really be a time-saver. Imagine not having to adjust the saddle so it just about the right height for your size; or the handle bar raising or lowering itself to provide optimum body position for aerodynamic efficiency. Self-adjusting bike frames are desirable because it can ensure that bicyclists enjoy the ride as they can reduce stress and muscle fatigue, especially for long, epic rides along bumpy country roads. But then, this technology needs an electric power source in order to work, and thus, may not go flush with the goals of bicyclists.

3. Biking on Mars

This is not hard to imagine at all since there are actual people who are preparing themselves to colonize the red planet. The technology needed to propel their spaceship is mind-boggling and the physical and mental preparation the astronauts have to go through is awesomely tremendous that they would really have to be super-humans in order to survive. Bicycles may be so low tech in the face of all those grand technologies that brought them to Mars, but using bicycles there may just be what they need to conserve precious energy and ensure their survival until they would have procreated or more supplies and astronauts from earth would have arrived.

4. No more spinning classes

This can actually either be totally true or totally BS by the time which we are referring to arrives. Why? It’s because either the Earth is still habitable or it isn’t. If it still is, why would you want to spend your free time indoors spinning your time away on stationary bikes when you can take a real bicycle outside and ride freely and breathe real air? Or if the environment by then is totally toxic, then it does make sense to just stay indoors and ride fake bicycles.

5. Gasoline is more expensive than a bicycle

We can just imagine the scarcity of fossil fuel by then, and thus being scarce, gasoline prices will rise so high that only the rich who still have cars to drive can afford. In the meantime, those cannot afford cars and gasoline will have to make do with bicycles and will certainly enjoy healthier and happier lives.

We can almost be sure that bicycles will be around us well into the coming millennia even as we imagine a future where cars can fly and human beings can teleport to distant planets in mere microseconds. We can build a simple bike that we could use to buy groceries or build one that could circumnavigate the planet and maybe shoot us up to the skies above. But one truth remains: it’s our choice whether we want to bike today or not, and it will certainly affect how our future will take shape.
